The interest in the qualities of construction materials is increasing and it will show at Nordbygg 2024. Wood is a material with momentum.
October 11, 2023
One of the most spectacular exhibits at the last Nordbygg was the one by the wood group, Derome. They will be back in 2024 and are certain that this momentum that wood has will continue.
The wide interest in the development of materials is a natural consequence of the increase in sustainability demands, in pursuit of a decreased climate footprint for construction and properties. At Nordbygg 2024, materials will have a advanced position. A new stage will be launched, Byggmaterialscenen (The Construction Materials Stage), which among other things will focus on construction materials and circular construction processes. Glass will have its own collection stand, brought in cooperation with Glasbranschföreningen (The Glass >Industry Association). Also, the Materials Library will be back.
– The development of materials is among the most exciting processes that we see in the industry right now. We are very happy that Nordbygg’s visitors will be able to meet knowledgeable representatives for all construction materials. The materials issue is so hot right now, that we already this Autumn have dedicated a whole day, November 28, called The Construction Materials Day. There, cooperation in the entire value chain towards the sustainability goals will be promoted, Lina Hann explains, Project Manager at Nordbygg.
Wood on the move
Wood is a material that is gaining terrain on the way to sustainable construction. At Nordbygg 2024, you will notice this already in the entrance hall, where the winner of the architecture competition ”New eyes on” will have a meeting point and a stage in the main entry hall. The criterion this year is that the winning contribution is to be constructed of wood, and circularity and demountability will be taken into account.
– During 2023, we have seen a larger impact of and interest in our houses and apartment buildings made of wood. The interest in construction in wood has accelerated at the same pace as the social awareness that we need to decrease the climate footprints in the construction industry, and this awareness and will steadily increases, says the Head of Sustainability at the wood group Derome, Anders Carlsson.
At Nordbygg 2022, Derome had one of the most spectacular stands, where they utilised almost the full ceiling height in C hall. They will be back in 2024, but so far are quite tight-lipped regarding how they will dazzle the visitors this time. However, Derome see no signs that the interest in sustainability should fail.
– More and more people work with this issue of exchanging materials with high climate footprints, and replacing these with wood. Wood is one of the keys to sealing the deal or the financing and where coming EU Directives will turn the pressure up as a means of control, Anders concludes.
