The City of Stockholm strengthens its ties to the construction industry by marking its presence at Nordbygg, which is Northern Europe’s most important gathering event for the construction and real estate sectors and takes place April 23rd-26th 2024 at Stockholmsmässan.
March 20, 2024
The city will not only be represented through its companies and administrative departments at a common stand; it will also participate in the stage program. Karin Wanngård, Mayor of Stockholm, will for instance speak at the opening.
A recent study has shown that investments in the construction industry within the larger capital area will amount to 115 billion euros by 2040. International efforts will be solicited to keep up with the building pace; the City of Stockholm will for example need an additional 30-40 000 construction workers. To attract and ameliorate ties to the construction industry, the City of Stockholm has chosen to invest largely in Nordbygg, both as an exhibitor and a co-organizer of the stage program.
– The last twenty years have witnessed more building work than ever before, with over 100 000 new homes and an additional 70 000 that will be built during the coming decade. For this to be successful, especially during tough financial times and considering the worsening climate crisis, it is important to have a dialog and exchange with the construction industry. That is why it is crucial for us to participate in Nordbygg, says the Mayor of Stockholm, Karin Wanngård, who will also speak at the opening on Tuesday April 23rd.
Together for a sustainable Stockholm
Under the slogan “Together for a sustainable Stockholm”, representatives from the City of Stockholm will be present at their stand close to the entrance of Stockholmsmässan. Visitors will be able to meet several of the city’s departments and companies: the Stockholm city development department, the environment and health agency, the real estate department, Svenska Bostäder, Familjebostäder, Stockholmshem, SISAB and Stockholm Business Region (SBR). There will be panel discussions about the city’s cooperation with the industry within BEAST, electrification entrepreneurs and a procurement model for strategic coordination. There will also be opportunities to discuss everything from how to do business with the City of Stockholm and how procurement works, to finding out more about Stockholmshusen.
Oscar Lavelid, city development strategist for the City of Stockholm, considers there to be several reasons for strengthening the ties to the construction industry:
– Nordbygg is a wonderful place to meet different stakeholders from the construction industry. With thousands of visitors from all over the world, we have a unique opportunity to act together with the industry to meet the massive challenges that stand before us. We are going to create new contacts and give visibility to Stockholm’s commitment to strive sustainable development forward.
