Together with the Nordbygg team, the Swedish industry organization Svensk Ventilation, led by its Britta Permats, was on-site when ISH Frankfurt 2025 was held recently.
Britta’s three international insights
1.Sweden at the forefront
It was clear at the fair that Sweden has a strong international presence. Several Swedish companies, such as Systemair, Swegon, and IV Produkt, showcased groundbreaking technologies in ventilation and energy efficiency. Swedish expertise in sustainable ventilation is in demand, and we are at the forefront when it comes to innovations related to optimized heat recovery, improved fan technology, and better control systems.
2. New requirements and technical solutions
The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, which will be implemented in Swedish legislation in 2026, means that building systems in commercial properties will need to have automation and control systems that can monitor indoor environmental quality and energy efficiency. This creates new business opportunities for Swedish companies that are leading in innovation, including a growing need for more reliable air quality sensors. Eurovent and Eurovent Certification were present in Frankfurt to discuss how the industry can collaborate to drive development forward.
3. Circularity – the next big challenge
Although eco-design requirements have already improved the energy efficiency of the industry, the revision and expansion of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) will place greater emphasis on circularity requirements throughout all life cycle phases of products.
Reducing the use of virgin materials is a key issue within ESPR, but reusing ventilation products is also important – though it remains a challenge. This summer, Svensk Ventilation will release a recommendation on how the reuse of ventilation products can be implemented in practice, which may help and support the industry in the right direction.
